Cruising is about lots of things – the food, the experience, the service the destinations and of course, the photo opportunities. Though they’ve change drastically in format over the years, our personal snaps are as much a part of our holiday experience as they ever were. On a cruise, the inner photographer comes out in all of us and if we’re already a keen snapper, then it offers a great choice of locations and landmarks in a relatively short space of time. Though you won’t be able to see them all of them on one cruise, here are ten of my iconic photos that you should try and take for yourself at some point during your cruising life.
The Grand Canal, Venice
The City on the Water is photographed endlessly, but a dusk or evening shot of its iconic Grand Canal to call your own is the perfect souvenir to take back. Getting a gondolier in action in shot is of course a must.
The Taj Mahal
Quite simply one of the world’s most iconic buildings, this marble mausoleum is yours to experience if you’re on an Indian cruise and stay. It’s identical from all four sides, so don’t waste too much time trying to find a shot that’s different from everyone elses!
Easter Island statue
One of the world’s most enigmatic images is that of one of Easter Island’s famous denizens gazing out to sea with an impassive and never-ending stone stare. A number of six star cruises are available to Easter Island, meaning you’ll have the chance to grab your very own shot.
The Great Wall of China
Say the word ‘China’ and most people picture the iconic image of the Great Wall winding its way over the lush green hills of this historic nation. With a range of excursions to it from Beijing available, you’ll be able to capture this image yourself.
The Eiffel Tower
Another iconic structure and one of the world’s most photographed. Whether you choose to get a classic portrait capture, a ‘looking up’ shot or the tourist classic ‘holding the Eiffel Tower’ from the Trocadero Gardens, it’s a must on a Paris cruise and stay.
The Leaning Tower of Pisa
This is another famous structure, in fact most famous for its structural defects than its attractive architecture. A cruise excursion from Livorno on your Mediterranean cruise will give the opportunity to visit and capture the classic ‘holding up the leaning tower’ shot.
Iguazu Falls
They may not be the tallest or the most famous, but Argentina’s Iguazu Falls are considered by many to be the most beautiful in the world and capturing them for yourself is a photographic experience to remember.
Machu Picchu
The last stronghold of the Incas, this ancient site escaped the conquest of the Spanish in South America, as they failed to discover it. The iconic image to capture is that of its mountainous peaks which form the backdrop to many of the city remains.
Sydney Opera House
Australia’s most famous landmark is one of the world’s most unmistakable and lies of course in Sydney Harbour, so if you’re visiting Australia on a cruise, you’ll have ample opportunity to capture your very own harbour shot, in which the opera house is the star of the show.
The Sphynx at sunset
The ancient Sphynx is located in one of the busiest tourist destinations in the world and naturally one of the most photographed. To capture it at sunset, however, is to catch it at its more mystical and enchanting.
