Bucket List Cruising

There’s every chance you’ll be familiar with the term ‘bucket list’ but for anyone who isn’t, it’s simply a list of all the things you want to do before you ‘kick the bucket’. This could involve all manner of objectives, from visiting some of the world’s most famous and historic places, to climbing its highest peaks and getting up-close and personal with an exotic species of animal or three.

But where did it all start? Well, no-one knows for sure, but one of the most notable bucket lists was written in 1940 by American Schoolboy John Goddard, when he compiled his ‘life list’. Not simply the idle daydreams of a teenager, this was a list of 127 life goals; everything from learning to type to climbing the world’s major mountains. Throughout his 88 years on Earth, Goddard was true to his word and managed to complete 120 of his 127 goals before he died in May this year.

When you think these included exploring the length of the Amazon River, landing and taking off from an aircraft carrier and circumnavigating the globe, that’s some feat and Goddard’s list set in motion a life of stunning personal achievements which led to him becoming one of the world’s most celebrated explorers and adventurers.

OK, I’ll admit, that’s quite a demanding bucket list. But don’t worry, you don’t have to be a ‘real life Indiana Jones’ to fulfil your exciting lifetime goals, because Six Star luxury cruises are a great way to visit some of the world’s most exotic donations, famous archaeological sites and real-life wonders, both man-made and natural.

The great thing is, it’s entirely possible that you could cross off a number of items on your own list during a single voyage, as cruises are the perfect way to visit a number of countries – and some of their most famous sites – in a short space of time.

If it’s a location, you can sail straight into the heart of your bucket list item but a simple check of your cruise shore excursion list can uncover more opportunities. Perhaps you’ll travel inland to a world-famous historical site, or there may even be an excursion tailored exactly to something you’ve always wanted to do; whether it’s to scuba dive in the Great Barrier Reef or view the Mona Lisa, Iguazu Falls or the Northern Lights with your own eyes.

So, whatever it is you’ve always wanted to do, with so many cruises and so many destinations out there to choose from, there’s nothing stopping you from doing it.

Take a look at John Goddard’s list and see if you share any of his goals.
