The countdown to Christmas is now well and truly underway as November makes way for the sparkly lights of December. And if you haven’t started on your present buying yet, you need to get a move on because it’s really getting very close.
I’ve scoured the internet and come up with this list of great present ideas to give to that special cruise lover in your life. Maybe one of these may even end up under your own tree this year – if you’ve been a good boy or girl, anyway.
Cruise Ship Model
If you know someone in need of a new hobby then this could be the absolute ideal present. Model kits have been popular for decades, as the intricate care and time needed to put something majestic together has helped to provide hours of entertainment. And then at the end of it all, you’ve something to be proud of.
The company Revell make a few different scale model kits for cruise ships, including Cunard’s Queen Elizabeth II, the Queen Mary and the Queen Mary II. They range in price and size, with the best being the 1:400 Queen Mary II kit that is made up of nearly 550 pieces and costs around £60. But at 86cm long it’s definitely worth it.
Luxury Blanket
Sitting on your own private balcony, or on the deck, is always a peaceful experience, and cruise lines will always provide blankets for you. But owning your own, luxury blanket is a touch more special.
Obviously it varies on how much you’re looking to spend, but you could get something warm and soft made of lambswool for around £100-£150, or splash out and get something incredible, made of pure cashmere and silk, for around £2,000.
Designer Sunglasses
When you’re enjoying the view from the deck on top of your ship, the last thing you want is to have to squint and not be able to fully appreciate it. That’s why we have sunglasses, and of course designer sunglasses are all the more special.
I won’t recommend a specific brand here because this is all about taste, but if you want something top-level you can expect to pay between £150 and £450. A lot of it is about the name that you pay for, so ultimately that’s all up to you.
Luggage
Of course, one of the most obvious answers is some new luggage. People love to get new suitcases, and right now you’ll be able to find all kinds of designs, from the subtle and stylish through to the bold, bright and heavily-patterned.
Just keep in mind what is easy to store in a cruise stateroom – the last thing you want to do when on holiday is have to keep climbing around a suitcase that can’t be hidden away.
