Luxury cruise ship big screen viewing

You’d be forgiven for not immediately associating smaller luxury cruise vessels with large screens, movies under the stars and big sport events showings. However with luxury cruise line Azamara Club Cruises recently announcing that it will be showing tonight’s Super Bowl on-board, as well as this summer’s World Cup matches in Brazil, there’s more going on when it comes to the big screen than you may think on Six Star cruises. Here’s a look at luxury cruise ship big screen viewing and what some of the lines offer.

Azamara Club Cruises

On-board both the Azamara Quest and the Azamara Journey, you’ll find a large flat-screen TV located in the casino, which is tuned into sporting events. Clearly, this is the place to be if you want to follow the fortunes of England, or indeed any other of your favourite teams if you’re on-board during this summer’s World Cup in Brazil.

Crystal Cruises

On both the Crystal Serenity and Crystal Symphony, you can head to the Hollywood Theatre on the Tiffany Deck to catch a mixture of both recent releases and classics. Showing that Crystal is clearly a line which takes its cruise ship big screen viewing seriously, the theatres are both kitted-out with Dolby Sound and multi-lingual translation systems, as well as devices to aid the hearing impaired.

SeaDream Yacht Club

On both SeaDream I and SeaDream II, which are identical, you’ll have the chance to enjoy a movie experience which is usually the preserve of larger, family-friendly cruise ships – the on-deck cinema. This is luxury cruise ship big screen viewing al fresco style, as SeaDream’s Starlit Movies programme allows passengers to retire to the pool deck after dinner and enjoy a movie or concert, with popcorn and drinks on request. When the weather’s not ideal, the event is held in the Main Salon instead.

Silversea Cruises

On each of Silversea’s vessels, you’ll find that the performance theatre doubles as a cinema also, so on selected evenings, you’ll be able to watch a movie if you choose. Avid movie fans will be pleased to know that the line also runs matinee movies to help pass the time during days at sea.

Seabourn

On Seabourn Odyssey, Soujourn and Quest, which are all virtually identical, the Grand Salon performance venue also doubles as a cinema, if needed.

Coming to a TV near you…

If you’re the type of cruiser who when at home prefers a DVD in front of TV instead of a night out at the cinema, then it’s worth noting that most lines screen movies on in-suite TVs, either via streaming on interactive screens or via DVDs available in the on-board video library.
