Compagnie du Ponant has signed a deal with the famous ship-building yard Fincantieri for the building of a new Boreal-class cruise ship, which is due to launch in the Spring of 2015.
The specifications of the ship will be exactly the same as her sister ships in the Boreal class: Le Soleal, the Boreal and L’Austral. This means it will be able to accommodate up to 264 passengers in 132 cabins, all of which will have a view of the ocean and 95% of which will have a private balcony. The ship will be staffed by a crew of 140.
The deputy executive vice president of Compagnie du Ponant, Veronique Saade, said “Specifically tailored to what our passengers seek, these intimate ships with their innovative design allow us to explore exceptional destinations in the most extreme regions, while enjoying a level of comfort that is second-to-none: a five star expedition and tailor-made service as conceived by Compagnie du Ponant.”
If you don’t know much about Compagnie du Ponant, it is a French cruise line that offers luxurious small-ship voyages with a focus on destinations that larger ships cannot reach. The cruises are bi-lingual with announcements made both in French and in English so you don’t need to worry about feeling alienated or confused.
The new ship for Compagnie du Ponant will sail along the Alaskan coastline during the summer months, exploring majestic glaciers and fascinating port towns, before travelling around the amazing cities of Australia and New Zealand in winter. Passengers will have a choice of two restaurants, while there will be a theatre for entertainment and a lounge where guests can unwind. Spa treatments will also be available.
The name of the ship hasn’t been revealed yet but no doubt will be over the course of the coming months, along with more specific details on itineraries.
