Silversea announces plans for refurbishment of Silver Wind

Silversea Cruises have announced plans for a second refurbishment of Silver Wind in summer 2020, completing a major refurbishment project which started this month.

Her 2018 refurbishment comprised extensive renovations of the interior public spaces including the Show Lounge, the Restaurant, the Card and Conference Room, and the Library. The second dry dock will give the ship ice-class classification and improved cruising versatility, as well as undertaking a number of improvements to the vessel’s interior. The outcome will allow Silver Wind to offer a broader range of deep travel experience for guests in ultimate comfort, cruising on both classic and expedition itineraries.

The refurbishment is part of the larger, long-term plan to grow and improve Silversea’s s fleet, also known as Project Invictus. Come summer 2020, Silver Wind will benefit from a strengthened ice-class hull; new state-of-the-art equipment for cruising in remote regions; a fleet of Zodiacs and kayaks for on-water exploration; and an upgraded theatre.

The refurbishment will enhance Silversea’s hallmarks of luxury, with all suites also being upgraded, as well as the Spa and Salon. Other areas include the Reception/Atrium, La Dame, La Terrazza, the Main Bar, the Observation Lounge, the Panorama Lounge, the Pool Bar, public bathrooms, and the Theatre.

The ship will also accommodate fewer guests at just 254, but will implement higher space ratios, a higher crew-to-guest ratio and more upper suites.

She will continue to take guests closer to the authentic beauty of the world’s iconic destinations, such as the Caribbean and the Mediterranean. In the Caribbean, the ship will continue to visit renowned ports, such as San Juan, Barbados and St. Barts, while her intimate size will also enable her to unlock smaller ports, including Bequia, Anguilla and Les Saintes. Mediterranean favourites, such as Venice, Monte Carlo and Barcelona, will also continue to feature on the ship’s sailed itineraries, along with more secluded destinations like Syros, Mljet, and Antibes.

Following her refurbishment, her inaugural sailings will be in Antarctica, including:

Silversea’s CEO, Roberto Martinoli said:

“We are delighted to announce that our beloved Silver Wind will undergo a further extensive refurbishment in the summer of 2020, completing the enhancements made in December 2018. Evolving the ship into an ice-class vessel, complete with Zodiacs and kayaks, will diversify her offering for our guests: she will be capable of unlocking deep travel experiences in both classic and expedition destinations, from the Caribbean to Antarctica, and everywhere in between.”

The announcement follows the news that the cruise line has signed agreements for three new ultra-luxury ships, leaving guests able to expect more enhancements to Silversea’s rapidly growing fleet in the near future.
