We do like our top lists here at Six Star Cruises, and generally we like to make them quite specific – it makes choosing a list quite straight forward. But I’ve decided to go for something a bit more broad for this post, so here’s my list of simply the top 10 cities in the world to visit on a luxury cruise ship – this is sure to generate some arguments so please let me know what you think in the comments below.
New York
Known in some quarters as the capital of the world, New York has so much to see that it makes for a great port as part of a cruise, and is ideal for a hotel break as part of a cruise and stay deal. See Times Square, the Empire State Building, Central Park, the Statue of Liberty and more.
Sydney
Sydney’s harbour is worth a visit alone, with the two major landmarks of the Sydney Harbour Bridge and the Opera House providing magnificent landscapes to soak in as your arrive in port. It is also one of the few cities that combine such contemporary landmarks with a world-famous beach at Bondi.
Rome
There are many historic sights to enjoy in Rome – including the Pantheon, the Colosseum, the Trevi Fountain and more – but don’t forget it’s a modern city too. And there’s also the Vatican City which you can explore including the famous St Peter’s Basilica.
Rio de Janeiro
The carnival city of Rio de Janeiro is home to the renowned Copacabana Beach, the Christ the Redeemer statue and Sugar Loaf Mountain, which you can ascend by cable car to experience breath-taking views across the city and harbour.
Dubai
Dubai epitomises the wealth of the Middle East that we’ve seen develop over the past few decades. Home to the world’s tallest building, the Burj Khalifa, it’s also where you’ll find ultra-modern buildings with fascinating designs, while the desert is within easy reach for a safari drive.
Singapore
Singapore is a city-country that combines beautiful green parks with traditional streets and exciting skyscrapers. Home to one of the best zoos in the world, the city really comes to life at night, illuminated in a neon glow.
Tokyo
It’s a similar story in Tokyo with plenty of history through the ancient palaces contrasting with the bright colours of the city’s skyscrapers while there are many gorgeous parks when you want somewhere serene.
Barcelona
The architecture of Gaudi resonates throughout Barcelona, with the Sagrada Familia church one of the finest examples despite its unfinished condition. Wander down the popular tourist district of Las Ramblas for a taste of the lively ambience.
Paris
Undoubtedly one of the most romantic cities you could ever hope to enjoy, Paris exudes charm and sophistication alongside its memorable landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower and the Arc de Triomphe. It’s also home to many intriguing galleries filled with incredible artworks.
St Petersburg
Home to the Hermitage Museum, gold-adorned palaces, canals and stunning churches, St Petersburg is a delightful city with a vibrant culture and atmosphere, a sparkling jewel on the Baltic Sea.
